Gorillas on the Line (February 1 through April 30): Answer the call to save gorillas. The OKC Zoo is looking to the community-at-large to help protect gorillas and their habitats by donating used cellphones and old electronics to the Gorillas on the Line campaign. Small electronics frequently contain coltan, the mining of which threatens gorillas and many other endangered species’ habitats. All proceeds from the Eco-Cell Phone Recycling Program directly benefits the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, one of the OKC Zoo’s global conservation partners. Groundhog Day (Sunday, Feb. 2, 10 AM): Groundhog Day has gone to the bears! Join the OKC Zoo and Bob Moore Subaru for this year’s wild weather tradition as the Zoo’s bears make their annual Groundhog Day prediction. ZOOfriends’ Wine in the Wild at the OKC Zoo presented by Express Employment International and BancFirst (Friday, Feb. 14, 6-10 PM): Get a taste for conservation- and more than 100 wines from local, national and international wineries at the OKC Zoo's newest exhibit, Sanctuary Asia. ZOOfriends' Wine in the Wild is back, with live music, light hors d'oeuvres, zookeeper talks and more! Must be 21 or older to attend. Great Backyard Bird Count Bird Tour (Saturday, Feb. 15, 11 AM): Flock to the OKC Zoo to help wild birds. The Zoo is hosting a bird tour as part of the Great Backyard Bird Count, a global-citizen science project that asks people to count birds to create a real-time look at wild populations. Participation is easy to do, fun for families and individuals–all ages welcome. Meet in the Zoo’s entry plaza to join the tour.
Pepsi Vending Machine Art Contest (Monday, Feb. 24-Tuesday, Mar. 31): We are calling on Oklahoma’s talented students (K-12) to be creative conservationists. Wild prizes and the chance to have your design on a Pepsi vending machine at the Zoo. Entry forms available at okczoo.org.
New “Ask a Keeper” Schedule Begins (Sunday, Mar. 1)
OKC Zoo’s School’s Out Day Camp: Spring Break (Monday, Mar. 16 through Friday, Mar. 20, 8 AM-5:15 PM, daily): Spring into fun with Zoo camp! The OKC Zoo’s education department offers daily themed camps for kids 4-11 that include educational activities, in-park exploration, up-close animal ambassador visits and more. St. Patrick’s Day Animal Enrichment Event (Tuesday, March 17, 10 AM-2 PM): We’re wild for all things green! OKC Zoo continues its statewide literacy program, “Read for Adventure.” Presented by OGE, Oklahomans can check out the program’s brand-new book from any of the state’s 247 public library locations to receive four general admission ticket vouchers to the OKC Zoo. The Zoo’s Monarch Madness 5K and one-mile Fun Run, is a wild fundraising run benefiting local monarch butterfly conservation. Haunt the Zoo: All Grown Up (Friday, October 23, 7 PM-midnight): Experience the thrills and chills of Haunt the Zoo: All Grown Up, the state’s wildest Halloween party for adults! Adults 21-and-up will enjoy an evening of ghoulish fun with games (plus, prizes), a DJ, dancing, goodie bags and more. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Military Appreciation Month (Sunday, November 1 through Monday, November 30, regular zoo hours): The OKC Zoo is honoring active duty, retired, veteran members of the military, National Guard and Reserves with free Zoo admission during November. Plus, up to four immediate family members will receive 50% off of general Zoo admission on date of visit. Military members must show valid military ID to receive complimentary general admission. The Oklahoma City Zoo, located at the crossroads of I-44 and I-35, is a proud Adventure Road partner and a member of Oklahoma City’s Adventure District. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the American Association of Museums. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
