APRIL HAPPENINGS AT THE OKC ZOO

ZOO-IT-ALL THIS SPRING AT THE OKC ZOO

Do it all at the Zoo with a Zoo-It-All pass! Zoo guests and ZOOfriends’ members can “Zoo It All” with package pricing that includes admission and the convenience of unlimited rides, attractions, feedings and shows “Zoo It All” passes are available for purchase in-person and online at okczoo.org/tickets. Guests can upgrade from regular admission any time in the Guest Services office. The following “Zoo It All” pricing is available during regular Zoo hours:

  • Adult Zoo It All - $29 
  • Child/Senior Zoo It All - $24
  • ZOOfriends Member Zoo It All - $16

ONGOING:  SPRING/SUMMER ATTRACTION SCHEDULE

Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, smells and hands-on fun that these popular Zoo attractions offer. All Zoo rides and attractions are operational weather permitting. No guarantee of the following schedules can be made and all are subject to change without notice.

  • Centennial Choo Choo:  All aboard! Open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $3 per person. Children two and under free. 
  • Children’s Barn: Children enjoy this outdoor, tactile experience with rare animal species, including miniature donkeys, Nigerian dwarf goats, Tunis sheep and chickens. Open daily weather permitting from 9 – 4:30 p.m. Free to experience. 
  • Elephant Express: Daily rides offered from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with stops at four locations throughout the Zoo. All day bracelets are $6 per person. Children two and under free.
  • Elephant Presentations: Come meet our Asian elephants at the Elephant Pavilion. Daily at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. No cost to attend.
  • Endangered Species Carousel: Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $3 per person.
  • ExpLorikeet Adventure: See flying rainbows (aka lorikeets)! Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Children’s Zoo. We close for a “bird break” from 1-1:30 p.m. No cost to enter, $3 per person to feed. Nectar is not sold after 4 p.m.
  • Giraffe Feeding Platform: Giraffe slobber is the best! Discover for yourself when you feed our gentle giants daily at 1 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Limited availability.
  • Sea Lion Presentations: Get ready for a splash of fun. Sea lion presentations return to the Noble Aquatic Center with presentations daily at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Cost is $4 per person. Children two and under are free.
  • Stingray Bay: Catch the wave for a “touching” experience at Stingray Bay. Cost is $3 per person with paid Zoo admission. Children two and under are free. Stingray Feedings are an additional $3 fee at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. ZOOfriends’ memberships do not apply. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wild Encounters:  Wild Encounters are unique, behind-the-scenes experiences that let you see and interact with Zoo animals up-close! Daily interactions are available with elephants, Galapagos tortoises, grizzly bears, flamingos, sea lions and rhinos. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Additional fees apply, ranging from $15 - $45 for members and $20 - $50 for nonmembers. Book online at okczoo.org/tickets or contact Guest Services at (405) 425-0262 for reservations.

APRIL 2 THROUGH 6; APRIL 9 THROUGH 13: SCHOOL’S OUT DAY CAMPS
In the event of a teacher/public employee work stoppage, the Oklahoma City Zoo Education Department is prepared to offer School's Out Day Camps, Monday, April 2 through Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9 through Friday, April 13. Limited spaces available, $45 per camper/day, ages 4-11. Snacks provided, but campers must bring their lunch. Advanced registration and payment required. Camp runs 8:30 am-4:30pm. Please be prepared to provide a copy of your child's immunizations. Register at okczoo.org/camps or call (405) 425-0218.

THURSDAY, APRIL 5: NATURE EXPLORERS PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSE
Nature Explorers Preschool will begin open enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year on Friday, April 13. To learn more about this popular program that focuses on developing the “whole child”, attend our open houses on Thursday, April 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Education Center. SATURDAY, APRIL 7 FROM 10 AM TO 11:30 AM: WILDLIFE TRACKERS
Sharpen your investigative skills with animal tracks and clues. Put your skills to the test as you solve animal mysteries in the Zoo. Make and take home your own set of tracks. Ages: 4 and up. Cost: $12 (member), $15 (non-member). Click here to register.

THURSDAY, APRIL 12 AND THURSDAY, APRIL 19:  CUB CLUB TODDLER PROGRAM - CHATTY CHICKENS
Bring your little cub to the Education Center and learn about Zoo animals through lessons, crafts, discovery stations, and/or guided Zoo tours. Ages 2-5 years welcome. Toddler Cub Clubs are the second and third Thursdays of each month from 10 -11 a.m. Cost per child/adult pair is $12 (member) and $15 (non-member). FRIDAY, APRIL 13:  NATURE EXPLORER PRESCHOOL CLASS SIGN UPS BEGIN
Are you raising a future nature lover? Then the Zoo’s natural setting is for you! Nature Explorers Preschool focuses on developing the “whole child” (i.e., cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and creative development). Curriculum increases direct contact time with the outdoors through discoveries about the Zoo’s plants and animals. Open enrollment for the 2018-2019 year begins Friday, April 13, 2018. Classes run September 3, 2018, to May 24, 2019. Child must be 3-5 years on or before September 1, 2018. Three enrollment options include: Option 1 - Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.;Option 2 - Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; or Option 3 - add Friday to either Option 1 or 2. Fees include a $50 non-refundable enrollment fee to reserve a child's spot and $195/month for two-day preschool or $245/month for three-day preschool. SCOUT PROGRAMS
The OKC Zoo offers monthly opportunities for Boy and Girl Scouts and American Heritage Girls to learn about the natural world while achieving badges and meeting program requirements, electives. To learn more about these programs, click here.

NOW THROUGH SUNDAY, APRIL 15:  ZOO BLOOMS CONTINUES

ZOO BLOOMS, the largest botanical event celebrated at the Zoo since our national accreditation as a botanical garden in 1998, continues through Sunday, April 15. Peak bloom is expected to occur Easter weekend. It is Oklahoma’s largest tulip festival with floral beds stretching throughout 130 acres of the Zoo. ZOO BLOOMS a mix of over 100,000 tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and other species to create a spring blooming event that has significantly enhanced the natural landscape of the gardens. For 2018, the Zoo packed even more floral fireworks into guest-favorite spaces with additional seating options for the perfect family photo-ops.

KEEPER CONNECTION-BUTTERFLY GARDEN: DAILY AT 3PM

Gab about gardening with our horticulture experts and learn about the gardens they care for each day. Meet at the "Keeper Chat" sign located near the butterfly garden. These 15-minute presentations are free and occur daily at 3pm!

MONDAY, APRIL 1: OSTRICH EGG BREAKFAST TICKETS AVAILABLE

Join ZOOfriends for their 32nd annual Ostrich Egg Breakfast at the Oklahoma City Zoo on Saturday, May 12 at 8am! Tickets for this unique family event, which includes an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled hens’ eggs, waffles and of course omelets, go on sale Sunday, April 1, online at ZOOfriends.org or by phone at (405) 425-0618. This year's breakfast will be held at the newly renovated picnic grounds.

MONDAY, APRIL 2 THROUGH SUNDAY, MAY 6:  GLOBAL ENTRY PLAZA CLOSED FOR RENOVATION

Guests visiting the OKC Zoo in April will notice updates to the Zoo’s global entry plaza. During construction, ticket booths will remain open as will all other services located in the plaza including the gift shop, Safari Café, ZOOfriends’ office, Guest Services and Stroller Rental. Only the central area will be inaccessible during the renovation.

TUESDAY, APRIL 3 FROM 9AM TO 1PM:  READ ACROSS OKLAHOMA

Read Across Oklahoma returns with a PURRfect tribute to inspire Oklahoma’s early learners! Hundreds of children from across Oklahoma will gather to celebrate literacy and hear Oklahoma author and illustrator Hannah Harrison read from her 2015 book, “Bernice Gets Carried Away”. The book chronicles a day in the life of Bernice, a cat, upset after a series of negative experiences, finding inspiration in comforting her friends having even worse days than her own. The book also served as the inspiration for this year’s Read Across Oklahoma theme: Get Carried Away Reading. Guest appearances include Grammy-winning children’s entertainers Sugar Free Allstars and Nature Cat from PBS Kids. Event maps and itineraries will be available in the Global Plaza. Event activities are free with Zoo admission thanks to financial and volunteer support from Target. Read Across Oklahoma is part of the statewide Ready to Learn initiative coordinated by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and OETA. This program promotes literacy and helps build the foundation for a lifetime of learning, specifically targeting preschool children who may be at risk for low literacy. FRIDAY, APRIL 6 THROUGH SUNDAY, APRIL 8: HALF OFF ZOO ADMISSION WITH FOOD DONATION

News 9 and the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden are partnering with the Regional Food Bank to fight childhood hunger in Oklahoma. OKC Zoo guests bringing at least one non-perishable food item from the list below will receive half off admission (a $5.50 value for adults; $4 value for kids and seniors) from Friday, April 6 through Sunday, April 8. Each ticket requires at least one non-perishable food item for discount. Food donations will be accepted at the Zoo’s ticket windows. No other discounts or promotions may be combined with this offer. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11 THROUGH WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18: OKC ZOO JUNGLE GYM CLOSED FOR RENOVATION

The OKC Zoo Jungle Gym will close for renovations from Wednesday, April 11 through Wednesday, April 18. Junior League of Oklahoma City, ZOOfriends and the OKC Zoo are seeking volunteers to help update and refresh the playground, as well expand its footprint to add new features and components. Families, friends, neighbors, coworkers, civic organizations and other groups are invited to join this volunteer blitz. To sign up, click here. SATURDAY, APRIL 22:  EARTH DAY AND PARTY FOR THE PLANET CELEBRATION

The Oklahoma City Zoo is partnering with the global Earth Day celebration to help students and adults become environmental and climate aware citizens, ready to take action and be voices for change. Party for the Planet™, the OKC Zoo’s family fun Earth Day tradition, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include information stations, free Keeper Connections throughout the Zoo and an adventure safari for children 11 and under with a prize. Dr. Greg Rasmussen, director of the Painted Dog Research Trust in Zimbabwe, will discuss his on-the-ground conservation efforts and partnership with the OKC Zoo during a free lecture from 11 a.m. to noon in the Zoo’s education auditorium. The Zoo and Dr Pepper also will announce the winners of this year’s Dr Pepper Vending Machine Art Contest at 2 p.m. The event is free with paid Zoo admission. SATURDAY, APRIL 22:  EARTH DAY GARDEN TOURS

Along with the Earth Day celebration, the Zoo’s Horticulture team will host a free Earth Day Garden Tour featuring the Water Conservation Garden on Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. The tour will highlight the seven principles of water conservation gardening while showcasing drought tolerant plants for residential landscapes. The 10,000-square-feet Water Conservation Garden was recognized by the Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust with a Resolution of Appreciation for the Zoo’s efforts to educate consumers on the importance of conserving water by landscaping with drought-resistant, yet attractive, plants and flowers. Garden tours will meet in the Global Plaza near the Guest Services office at 10 a.m.

FRIDAY, APRIL 27: SAFARI SOIRÉE

Go wild for a great cause! Dine and dance under the stars at the Oklahoma Zoological Society's second annual Safari Soirée on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. and experience an evening of fabulous food, exotic drinks and unforgettable entertainment. Tickets are on sale now at zoofriends.org by phone at (405) 425-0618 or in the ZOOfriends’ membership office. Must be 21 or older.

THROUGH OCTOBER 31: DAILY KEEPER CONNECTIONS

Are you a fan of flamingos? Painted dogs or Red River hogs? Daily Keeper Connections help you connect with your favorite animals and the keepers who care for them. The Zoo’s animal keepers are everyday conservationists, dedicated to protecting and preserving our planet’s wildlife and wild places. They have a wealth of information to share as they show off the Zoo’s amazing animals. Keeper Connection signs are posted throughout the Zoo. Schedules are available in Guest Relations and online at www.okczoo.org.
