OKC Zoo News Releases

THE SMASHING “CHOMP AND STOMP” TRADITION CONTINUES AT OKC ZOO

Pumpkin season has arrived at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden and that means it’s time for Chomp and Stomp 2018! Caretakers have busily been preparing fun and tasty pumpkin treats for the animals. Some prefer sliced, others want diced and some like the whole pumpkin. These culinary creations are presented as part of the Zoo’s ongoing animal enrichment program, designed to stimulate their senses and encourage natural behaviors. OKC Zoo is hosting Chomp and Stomp, its annual Halloween animal enrichment event, on Friday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Animal caretakers will prepare enriching and edible pumpkin creations for some of the Zoo’s animals. These activities are free with Zoo admission. The Chomp and Stomp 2018 schedule is as follows:

  • 10 a.m. – Tigers (Cat Forest)
  • 10:30 a.m. – Galapagos Tortoises (Island Life)
  • 11 a.m. - Hoofstock (Giraffe/Red River Hogs)
  • 12 p.m. - Stingray Bay
  • 12:30 p.m. – Koi Pond (Children’s Zoo)
  • 1 p.m. – Lorikeets (Children’s Zoo)
  • 2 p.m. - Red Pandas (Sanctuary Asia)
  • 2:30 p.m. - Sea Lions (Noble Aquatic Center)

Experience the wild side of Halloween at the OKC Zoo. The Zoo’s 35th annual Haunt the Zoo, presented by Bob Moore Subaru, is Saturday/Sunday, Oct. 20-21 and Saturday/Sunday, Oct. 27-28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Zoo’s marine mammal animal caretakers created a festive superhero-themed Halloween sea lion presentation exclusive to Haunt the Zoo. Sea lion presentations are daily at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Noble Aquatic Center. The Haunt the Zoo superhero-themed sea lion presentations will be Saturday, October 20; Sunday, October 21; Saturday, October 27; and Sunday, October 28. Admission is $4 per person and children two and under are free.

New this year, the Oklahoma City Zoo is expanding its Halloween legacy by throwing the state’s wildest seasonal party for adults – Haunt the Zoo: All Grown Up, presented by COOP Ale Works! On Friday, October 26 from 7 p.m. until 12 a.m., adults 21-and-up are invited to the Zoo for an evening of ghoulish fun at the recently renovated picnic grounds by Zoo Lake. Costumes are encouraged, but not required.

Don’t miss the chomping and stomping fun! Located at the crossroads of I-44 and I-35, the Oklahoma City Zoo is an Adventure Road partner and a member of Oklahoma City’s Adventure District. The Zoo proudly holds accreditations from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the American Association of Museums. Guests are welcome daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with exhibit buildings closing at 4:45 p.m. Stay connected to the world of wild!
