OKLAHOMA ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL CONSERVATION EVENT AT THE OKC ZOO

Dine and dance under the stars! The Oklahoma Zoological Society (OZS) and the Oklahoma Zoo and Botanical Garden will host the third annual Safari Soirée from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019. Each year, Safari Soirée celebrates the community’s support of the OKC Zoo’s conservation efforts, and provides guests with a unique opportunity to “star graze” throughout the entire zoo at night.

The evening will include food from many of Oklahoma City’s best local restaurants, exotic cocktails, rare behind-the-scenes animal experiences and, of course, flashlights for exploring. Performances from local favorite My So Called Band, a silent auction, a late-night sea lion show and the freedom to explore and rediscover Oklahoma’s oldest and largest cultural attraction all come together to make this event truly one-of-a-kind.

“Safari Soirée is quickly becoming the premier conservation event for the Oklahoma City Zoo,” Matt Burkholder, OZS Director of Community Engagement, said. “This year, we’re continuing to enhance the conservation focus by creating a completely Zero Waste event.”

Guests are encouraged to explore the OKC Zoo to discover conservation destinations that highlight programs aimed at protecting critically endangered species and other conservation-related topics. These conservation stations include education on planting for monarch butterflies and other pollinators, the palm oil crisis and reducing single-use plastics, among others.

All net proceeds for Safari Soirée benefit the overall conservation efforts of the Oklahoma City Zoo. In 2018, this event donated more than $90,000 to both local and global projects that include the purchase of rainforest in Sumatra, protecting endangered elephants, tigers and orangutans and supporting local habitats for monarch butterflies.

Safari Soirée is a 21-and-up event. Tickets are limited and can be purchased at zoofriends.org, by calling (405) 425-0618 or by visiting the ZOOfriends’ membership office at the Zoo. General Admission tickets are $75 each and include entrance to the OKC Zoo, food, drinks, sea lion presentation, giraffe feeding, stingrays, lorikeets, informative conservation destinations and more!

Safari Soirée sponsorships offer multiple levels of participation. Conservation Champions include Bob Moore Subaru; Devon Energy and Express Employment Professionals. Conservation Ambassadors include BancFirst; Peggy Kates; Republic National Distributing Company; Dr Pepper; COOP Ale Works; and Richard L. Sias.
