OKC ZOO GORILLA TATU RECEIVING MEDICAL CARE FOR AGE-RELATED HEALTH CONDITIONS

The Oklahoma City Zoo’s veterinary care team is monitoring one of the Zoo’s well-loved Western lowland gorillas, Tatu, a 41-year-old silverback, for age-related health conditions. Tatu started showing signs of unusual behavior last Wednesday evening, April 27, which concerned his caretakers. The veterinary care team immobilized him this morning and conducted a full medical exam to determine diagnostics and supportive care.

It is with much excitement that the Oklahoma City Zoo and Dr Pepper announce the winners of the 12th annual Dr Pepper Vending Machine Art Contest. Oklahoma students in kindergarten through twelfth grade were invited to participate in the contest from mid-February through March 31 for a chance to have their design featured on a Dr Pepper machine at the Zoo and win Visa® gift cards courtesy of First Security Bank, art supplies from Porch School & Art Supply and, new this year, all students who entered the contest were eligible to win $1,529 toward an Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan account.

The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden announces the appointments of two new curators. Dr. Rebecca J. Snyder joins the Zoo as curator of conservation and science, a new position that will oversee the management of the Zoo’s growing and diverse conservation and research initiatives. Lance Swearengin has been promoted from the Zoo’s horticulture and grounds supervisor to horticulture and grounds curator. He will oversee 160 acres of exhibit and landscape development.
