The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden (OKC Zoo) is looking for a dynamic leader to fill the role of Curator of Primates. This position will oversee all components of the care and welfare of the great apes and small primates. In addition to providing leadership to the animal care team, this role will support the OKC Zoo’s education, research, field and resource conservation efforts.
The OKC Zoo’s primate collection currently includes twenty-two great apes and eleven small primates. Specifically, there are two groups of western lowland gorillas, a seven-member group of chimpanzees, a bachelor group of Francois langurs, a pair of spider monkeys, and a group of squirrel monkeys.
Oklahoma City is the gem of the state of Oklahoma. It is complete with the Western influence one might expect. But, it also boasts all the modern attractions, cuisine, events, and entertainment one would want in a modern metropolitan community. Plus, it’s home to Will Rogers World Airport, with direct flights to more than thirty other cities.
The OKC Zoo strives toward innovation and maximizing the talents of employees that possess a keen interest in advancing research in their field and the conservation efforts of the institution. The ideal candidate for this position will possess an advanced degree (preferred but not required), have at least five years of experience working in an AZA accredited institution, to include at least two years of supervising subordinate animal caretakers.
