Recycled Flip-Flop Artwork Supports Ocean Conservation

Guests visiting Safari Gifts in the Oklahoma City Zoo’s entry plaza may have noticed the bounty of “green” gifts available, including artwork from Ocean Sole.

These psychedelic pieces are made entirely from recycled flip-flops that have washed ashore from the oceans and waterways in Kenya. These flip-flops create an environment disaster for marine life on the coast and in the ocean. Not only do these works of art serve as conversational centerpieces, but they also remind us that the world’s oceans need our help.

Since 2005, Ocean Sole has cleaned up over 1,000 tons (2 million pounds) of flip-flops, provided steady income to over 150 low-income Kenyans in their company and supply-chain, and contributed over 10 percent of their revenue to marine conservation programs.

Next time you’re in search of a gift that gives back, swing by Safari Gifts in the plaza and browse their selection of green souvenirs, like the Ocean Sole collection which includes lions, zebras, rhinos, sharks, warthogs and more!
