WHAT: The Oklahoma City Zoo and News 9 are partnering to fight hunger and “pack” school pantries in central
and western Oklahoma by raising food donations for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
WHERE: Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden – food donation items accepted at ticket windows.
WHEN: Wednesday, July 11; Wednesday, July 18; & Wednesday, July 25 / Regular Zoo hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., apply.
DETAILS: News 9 and the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden are partnering with the Regional Food Bank of
Oklahoma to fight childhood hunger in Oklahoma. Zoo guests bringing at least one food item
from the list below will receive half off admission (a $5.50 value for adults; $4 value for kids and seniors)
Wednesdays July 11, 18 and 25. Each ticket requires at least one food item for discount. Food
items will be accepted at the Zoo’s ticket windows. No other discounts or promotions may be combined
with this offer.
- Most needed items include: canned protein items (chili, chicken, tuna, beans and salmon), broth-based canned soups, canned fruit, canned vegetables, tomato products and pasta sauces, dry pasta, rice, granola bars, cereal and heat & serve meals (ravioli, lasagna, spaghetti and macaroni).
- 16.2 percent of our state’s population are considered food insecure, leaving 635,740 Oklahomans wondering where their next meal will come from.
- Oklahoma is the fifth hungriest states in the nation, where one in six Oklahomans live with hunger.
- All food will go towards the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids School Pantry Program, which provides food to chronically hungry middle and high school students.
