OKC ZOO CELEBRATES SALES TAX APPRECIATION DAY JULY 10 WITH FREE ADMISSION
July 03, 2018
The Oklahoma City Zoo, OKC’s oldest cultural attraction, remains thankful to the city’s citizens for their ongoing dedication and support! This year marks the twenty-eighth anniversary of the 1/8 of a cent dedicated sales tax being passed by Oklahoma City citizens for the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, and to celebrate, the Zoo is offering free admission to guests on Tuesday, July 10, 2018.
Passed by Oklahoma City citizens in 1990, the sales tax has made numerous capital improvements possible at the Zoo including Great EscApe, Cat Forest/Lion Overlook, Oklahoma Trails, the Children’s Zoo, the Elephant Habitat, the Joan Kirkpatrick Animal Hospital and the new, 6.6-acre Sanctuary Asia Habitat, opening this summer. The expansion will create a vast, multipurpose environment where animals from the Asian continent can thrive while receiving world-class animal care.
“We are extremely grateful to the people of Oklahoma City for their ongoing commitment to the Zoo. It’s a commitment we take seriously. We work constantly to ensure the Zoo provides a world class experience to guests, creates meaningful educational experiences and supports conservation efforts that protect wildlife and wild places for future generations.” said Dwight Lawson, executive director/ceo.
Take advantage of the free admission and make plans to visit the Zoo on Sales Tax Appreciation Day, Tuesday, July 10. Regular prices apply for all rides and attractions.
Located at the crossroads of I-44 and I-35, the Zoo is a proud member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the American Alliance of Museums, Oklahoma City’s Adventure District and an Adventure Road partner. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regular admission is $11 for adults and $8 for children ages 3-11 and seniors ages 65 and over. Children two and under are admitted free. Stay up-to-date with the Zoo on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and by visiting Our Stories. Zoo fans can support the OKC Zoo by becoming Oklahoma Zoological Society members at ZOOfriends.org or in-person at the Zoo!
