‘PAWS FOR A CAUSE’ EVENT BENEFITS AFRICAN PAINTED DOG CONSERVATION
March 26, 2019
Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden fans should follow the pack to Fassler Hall for the PAWS for a Cause event, raising awareness for African painted dog conservation! On Thursday, March 28, Fassler Hall will donate 20 percent of all food and beverage sales from 5 p.m. through 9 p.m. in support of the Painted Dog Research Trust (PDRT), one the OKC Zoo’s major conservation initiatives. Dr. Greg Rasmussen, director of the Painted Dog Research Trust, will be on-hand to answer questions about the remarkable species and his conservation work in Zimbabwe. Fassler Hall has a dog-friendly patio, so make plans to bring the family, including Fido!

The OKC Zoo, home to African painted dogs since 1972, currently has five painted dogs as part of its animal family. Starting in 2017, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden partnered with the PDRT to provide financial support from the Round Up for Conservation Fund for their mission and send staff to assist in the organization’s field work. The PDRT is dedicated to the conservation of the highly endangered African painted dog, formerly known as the African wild dog. It’s estimated that fewer than 7,000 remain in the wild.
