OKC ZOO SETS NEW FEBRUARY WEEKEND ATTENDANCE RECORD
February 04, 2020
February attendance is off to a banner start for the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden as 19,420 guests visited the Zoo this weekend–Saturday, February 1 and Sunday, February 2, 2020. This record surpasses the previous record set in 2015 with 17,887 guests. The combination of unseasonably warm, spring-like weather plus, the Zoo’s new Connect with Wildlife Challenge and Groundhog Day family-friendly festivities, presented by Bob Moore Subaru on Sunday contributed to the increased attendance.
The Zoo’s Connect with Wildlife Challenge encouraged guests of all ages to “take a tech break” and check-in their cellphones on Sunday in exchange for free general Zoo admission that day. Approximately 3,200 guests (adults, children) participated in the Connect with Wildlife Challenge and gladly relinquished their cellphones before entering the Zoo.
“It was exciting to see so many guests participate in our “Challenge” and enjoy the Zoo without the distraction of their mobile devices,” said Dwight Lawson, OKC Zoo’s executive director/CEO. “As a cultural destination dedicated to connecting people to wildlife and wild places, we recognize the importance of offering new opportunities such as this for families and friends to enjoy time together exploring the Zoo.”
