A MESSAGE FROM OKC ZOO DIRECTOR REGARDING CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
March 12, 2020
To our valued guests, ZOOfriends members, volunteers, students and generous supporters,
The safety and well-being of our guests and staff is our top priority everyday here at the OKC Zoo particularly with the emergence of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
We are closely monitoring the latest developments and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). We are also enhancing our cleaning and sanitation efforts on all guest and employee touch points, continuing to provide anti-bacterial soap in all hand-washing stations, and alcohol-based hand sanitizers throughout the Zoo. We are frequently cleaning and disinfecting all ride vehicles, water fountains, playground equipment, countertops, restrooms, food locations, and employee break areas.
As much as we love welcoming guests to connect with the wildlife in our care, we ask that guests not visit the OKC Zoo when sick with a cold or flu. Staying home to recover is not only good for your health; it ensures the well-being of others, too. We are asking Zoo employees who are sick to stay home. If anyone has a fever or becomes sick while at work, we will immediately release them to see their medical provider.
Rest assured that we are taking the necessary precautions in this evolving situation. We remain committed to the wildlife in our care and our vision of being Oklahoma’s premiere destination for connecting you with wildlife and wild places. For additional information about COVID-19, please visit the CDC’s website or ok.gov/health.
Thank you for your support,
Dr. Dwight Lawson
OKC Zoo Executive Director
