Plants need water to grow and thrive, and the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden strives to utilize this valuable resource efficiently. The program will highlight water-efficient plant materials and irrigation technology used by the Zoo plus, a presentation on drought tolerant plant choices for Oklahoma. Participants will then complete a walking tour of the Zoo’s Butterfly Garden, picnic grove, Oklahoma Trails habitat, and the water conservation garden. Zoo horticulture staff, master gardeners and Oklahoma State University extension personnel will be on hand at each garden location to discuss the exhibits and answer questions. Kid-friendly activities will also be provided at each stop on the tour. 

This program is held in cooperation with the Oklahoma State University Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, the Oklahoma County Extension office and the Oklahoma City Utilities Department.

Run, so they can fly! The Zoo’s Monarch Madness 5K and one-mile Fun Run, is a wild fundraising run benefiting local monarch butterfly conservation. The officially timed course simulates the 4,000k migration monarchs make from Canada to Mexico for the winter with themed water stops along the trail. Visit www.okczoo.org to learn more.

The OKC Zoo invites you to the state’s wildest seasonal party for adults–Haunt the Zoo: All Grown Up! Adults 21-and-up will enjoy an evening of ghoulish fun with games (plus, prizes), a DJ, dancing, goodie bags and more. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Net proceeds from the event will fund the OKC Zoo’s ongoing education and conservation programs.

For all you do, the Zoo salutes you! The Zoo is proud to offer free admission to all active duty, active reserves and retirees on Veteran’sDay. Military ID or proof of service is required.

 

Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 28):  The Zoo is closed.

Santa will visit the OKC Zoo and deliver “wild” gifts to some of the animals. Guests are welcome to take pictures with Santa and enjoy free hot chocolate (while supplies last). This event is free with Zoo admission.

 

Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25):  The Zoo is closed.
